Catherine's story
Just starting
out ...
 |
Catherine began her dancing career with Patrick Farrington
in Dublin. The only reason she started was a friend showed
her one time her dancing costume and Catherine fell in love.
Once she began dancing in competitions she became hooked.
A number of years later she changed schools to a new teacher
Mary O' Connor. Both teachers had been taught by the
well known Dublin dance master Rory O' Connor. While
dancing she participated not only in feiseanna but
also danced in many Folk Festivals in Ireland and across Europe.
From an early age she knew she wanted to be a dance teacher
and at the age of 24 years she successfully completed her
Teachers examination TCRG.

After getting her teachers she decided to move to Holland
with her boyfriend Jacob. Once in Holland Catherine set up
a small class in Amsterdam and continued to teach them until
in 1998 the Irish Club Netherlands approached her and asked
if she would be interested in teaching a small group of children
they had which had just been left without a teacher.
The group had no standard what so ever but Catherine soon
put that right. She continued to teach this group until
two years ago when she set up the "Redmond School of
Irish Dancing".

Catherine puts all her energy into teaching and coaching the
children, to teach them the correct style and deportment of
Traditional Irish dancing. To give them a sense of their
own ability , a sense of team sport , fair play and most important
of all to build up their confidence in themselves as dancers
and their ability for them to have fun in their dancing.
It is not just about winning in competition but enjoying their
dancing and gaining something from it in which they can carry
through life.
It's fun to dance Irish!
